According to Indian Government every vehicle should have licence number plate on front and back side.Indian government has also imposed certain color restrictions to categories each car by the colors and symbols used on the vehicle’s number plates. As you may noticed their are different types of number plates, with different color. Some have black, some have yellow. Read this article to know more about color, symbol and types of number plates.
1) White Number Plate :
Plates for private four wheeler and two wheeler are with black color text with white background.
Those vehicle is only used for private purpose. They cannot be used for commercial purpose.
2) Yellow Number Plate :-
This types of plate is used for commercial purpose, such as taxis,auto and trucks have yellow background and black color text. This can be used only for commercial purpose.
3) Black Plate With Yellow Letter.
This type of vehicles are commercials vehicles available on rent for self-drive have yellow lettering on a black background.
4) Red Number Plates:-
This type of number plates will have the red numbered plate with white text. Vehicle manufacturers use red number plates while testing and promotion of their new vehicle.
5) Number Plate With Upward Arrow:-
These vehicles are registered under Ministry of Defense. Military vehicles will have a black number plate with white text on it. The 1st / 3rd character will be an upward pointing arrow known as Broad arrow.
6) Blue Number Plates:-
All the foreign mission vehicles will have blue number plates with white text. These number plates will have special codes like UN, CC or CD which means United Nations, Consular Corps, Diplomatic Corps respectively.
